We are not alone, says Apple

18 Jul

“Smartphone Antenna Performance” graced the headline of Apple’s page at apple.com/antenna. Below it, Apple says that not only their iPhone smartphone are susceptible to signal attenuation.

Apple made purported demonstrations of phones by rival companies such as RIM, HTC and Samsung, with video grabs showing a drop in signal strength on devices such as the iPhone 4, Bold 9700, Droid Eris and Omnia 2 when held in a particular manner.

Using the Goo.gl URL shortener

27 Jun

In late 2009, Google released their new goo.gl URL shortener service for use with Google products and services. On the goo.gl website, it is mentioned that URL shortener service is not available for “broader consumer use”.

However, a certain Matthew Flaschen has made it possible to use goo.gl for any URL through a convenient Javascript bookmarklet. All you need to do is drag this link into your Bookmarks: Goo.gl

To use it, just click on the bookmarklet when you’re on the page whose URL you’d like to shorten and a pop-up window will appear with the shortened link that you can select and copy.

Sun, beach, food and Wave in Penang

26 Jun

Over the weekend, I’ve been taken away to Penang. What for? I don’t know.

But what I do know is that I’ll be indulging in an abundance of sunshine, a nice stretch of deserted beach along the Gurney Drive, plenty of mouth-watering food and, of course, enjoying the Wave.

But not just any Wave.

WordPress 3.0

18 Jun

This blog is now powered by WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”!

Upgrade complete!

It was a smooth, seamless upgrade. Just a click and it’s done before I knew it.

Nostalgic old WordPress 2?

Yes, as you may have noticed, the admin panel now sports a simple and clean theme on WordPress 3.0. This is nice and not too distracting – I often found myself looking around the admin panel while trying to think of ideas for a blog post.

WordPress 3.0 is the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors. It now includes a sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten.

You can read up about WordPress 3.0 on the WordPress Blog, or find out how to upgrade your WordPress blog right away.
